Service Info & Pricing

We service, tune & upgrade all brands* of suspension, regardless of age, type and model.  We are also the NZ agents for Manitou and have access to the full range of Manitou forks & parts.

Fork servicing is available from periodic maintenance to full strip and service.  We can offer, where available, new factory parts, new aftermarket parts and sometimes good used parts for older obselete models.

We offer tuning and upgrades for the most popular suspension platforms.  Details on how we can improve your fork are available here.

Servicing is performed by trained staff in a clean work-shop using dedicated tools and the best fluids for each application.  Service costs are split into labour, fluids and parts.  Fork return is via insured & tracked courier (Post Haste or NZ Couriers), pickup (if local or passing through Central Otago) or drop off (Alexandra/Clyde shops only).

*We service all brands, including Manitou, Rockshox, Fox, Cane Creek, Marzocchi, Ohlins, Specialized, DVO, DT, Magura, Maverick, Pace, RST, Suntour, Wren, X-Fusion, AMP Research, Noleen, Kona, Lapierre, Curnutt, DMN, BOS, Elka, Scott, Stratos and others; excluding Cannondale Headshock & Lefty.

Direct or via your Local Bike Shop

We offer fork service & tuning direct to customers who are comfortable removing suspension from their bike.  For locals we are able to remove the suspension from bikes at our workshop (there is a charge for this - see fork labour pricing - Other Charges).  We also work with local bike shops (LBS) - so you can contact them to book a Shockcraft service.  When your LBS is servicing your bike is the ideal time to get your suspension serviced too.

Lead Time & Service Queue

Our Service & Tuning Queue Counters provide an indication of lead time for jobs once they arrive at Shockcraft.*  These timeframes update automatically depending on how many items are in the queues.  Our live service queues are available for you to see how your job is progressing.  When our queues are longer (>2 weeks) our Book Now, Send Later or Book Now, Drop Later service is a good option to shorten the time you are without your suspension or dropper post.

*Lead time is number of working days.  This timeframe is true at the time of booking but can change quickly if we have a rush of bookings.  We service and tune parts in the order that they arrive, unless the Book Now, Send Later or Book Now, Drop Later service has been used.  Delays may occur if we are awaiting parts for service or repair.  On our live service queues these jobs will be marked as position 0 in the queue.  We will do our best to keep you updated if there is such a delay.

Getting Parts to Shockcraft

There are three options for getting your suspension or dropper post to us:
•   Drop Off : If you are based in Central Otago or passing through you are welcome to drop your suspension to us at 58 Boundary Road, Alexandra.
•   Carrier Kereru (Pigeon) Pickup: If you are too far to come visit then you can book our Shockcraft  Kereru and we'll arrange courier pickup of your suspension/dropper post (New Zealand based customers only - Kereru do not fly offshore).
•   Arrange Own Courier

Once you've booked your job we will email you a job number and a Shockcraft address label with checklist so you know what to do next.  We will notify you via email when your parts arrive and when your service is complete.  In between we will contact you if we have any questions.

  1. Fork Bushing Replacement or Resizing (Shockcraft)

    Labour for replacement or resizing of fork bushings to fix looseness, knocking or play.  Includes burnishing to final size.

    Available immediately for 28.6 mm, 30 mm, 32 mm, 34 mm, 35 mm, 36 mm, 37 mm, 38 mm and 40 mm forks.  Other sizes will have a slight delay as we manufacture tooling.

    Note wiper seals need removed for this service and almost always require replacement.

  2. Tuning Shim Shuffle (Shockcraft)

    A Shim Shuffle is changing the stock tune in a fork or shock damper to another factory pre-configured tune.  For example changing a medium tune to a firm tune or a soft tune.

    It is only available with a fork or shock service where factory tunes are published.  It does not include any shims or parts, they are charged separately if required.  Does not include dyno testing.

    This charge is for shim shuffle as part of any compatible fork or shock service.

    If you're not sure what type of service is required please contact us or we can make a recommendation after inspection of the fork.  Repair work is additional to a normal service.  We will always call and discuss before proceeding with any repair work.

    These rates are for labour only and exclude repair.
    Parts, oil & freight are additional and vary depending on the brand & model and the problems found.

  16. Fork Bushing Burnishing (Shockcraft)

    Final sizing and tolerancing of fork bushings to ensure minimal friction and maximum performance.  Cures issue of friction and stiction to improve small bump control.  Also reduces break-in time of a new fork to zero.
    Burnish sizes are carefully chosen to provide maximum oil film thickness without any knocking or noticable play.

  17. Fork Silent Treatment (Shockcraft)

    Permanent repair of creaking and ticking noises from fork crowns.  Also improves fork stiffness.  Shockcraft has the technology and understanding to dismantle and reassemble fork crowns for safe and permanent creak repair.

    Note that damaged crowns will be rejected.  This is not a repair for parts stretched or bent.

    Pricing depends on whether we receive a stripped Crown Steerer Unit (CSU) only or a whole fork.  If you send a whole fork we need to strip and rebuild it.sembly. 
    Forks with cartridge dampers (e.g. Fox FIT/GRIP/GRIP2/CTD, RockShox Charger, Manitou MC2 or Mezzer) require a minimum of a Lower Leg & Air Spring Service.
