At Shockcraft we've been playing alchemist and it's paid off big time.
We wanted to see if it were possible to create an oil that would slide as well as Supergliss but offer much better low temperature performance. Something versatile enough for 99.9% of the riders worldwide (you ice racing weirdos are the other 0.1% and we've got you covered too).
So we setup a test rig with loaded bushings and a way to consistently measure drag. We started by measuring all our existing oils. Then we started mixing and blending our Motorex base-oils with special additives to increase slipperiness and change viscosity.
This got really interesting. We got really excited. Because we don't get excited easily. The test riding had us coming back giggling.
You guys know how slippery Supergliss 100k is right? It's the most slippery and most consistent oil we've ever found. We sell it worldwide.
Well our new SSS70 blend is 2.5x more slippery than Supergliss 100K and works perfectly down to -5C. Check out our Bath Oil Drag results in graph below. For the ice and snow racing weirdos we concocted a special thinner blend: SSS60. It's 2.5x more slippery than Supergliss 68K and 20% thinner at 0°C than SSS70. It will keep moving when you've frozen solid.
For those running open bath forks and droppers (Manitou Dorado, Avalanche dampers, Bikeyoke Posts etc) we have SSS20. This is a low viscosity and high VI oil which works great in dampers and is 2.5x more slippery than Motorex 4 wt.
The SSS oils work so well you will need to retune your suspension. Normally 5-10% more fork pressure will have you sorted.
